Day in the life of
Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Andrea Rosenhaft
I’m an LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) with over 20 years of experience currently working as a therapist for a company that provides tele-psychotherapy.
I log into my calendar and that determines what time I start seeing my patients. I’m either seeing returning patients or conducting intakes with new patients. I see patients over a HIPPA compliant Zoom platform, from my home. Each session is typically 50 minutes. I have a ten minutes break between sessions.

I usually go from 8 AM to 6 PM with an hour break, but twice a week I go from 1 PM to 9 PM.
My schedule varies each day, but I see between 7 and 9 patients each day, but there will invariably be cancellations and/or no shows.
The majority of my patients have diagnoses of depression and anxiety, but I also see patients with OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
I work six days a week (Monday – Sat). When I’m not seeing patients, and often when I’m done for the day, I’m completing documentation.
Pros
Pros are the patients – I love working with them and helping them, watching them improve. Also, I like working 100% remotely. I like the people with whom I work. Several times a week we have a clinical meeting where we can bring challenging cases to get assistance
Cons
Cons are social work salaries – even though we have master’s degrees, they are not the same as other professions who have masters such as nursing, PT, etc.
Documentation takes a long time and can’t be completed during the session. It adds hours to our day, especially when we see 8 or 9 patients.
